The countryside surrounding the Cowshed is stunning, from Win Green just to the north to the Jurassic Coast to the south and the New Forest in the east the walking trails are boundless. Martin Down, Pentridge Hill and Badbury Rings are a few local high points with views to The Needles on the Isle of Wight. There are OS maps available in the Cowshed to plan your own route or here are a few of our favorites.
We have provided a detailed route to the King John Pub over the hill which takes about an hour.
There is a lovely walk around the lake at Fonthill Gifford near the Beckford arms.
Stunning walk along the beach at Studland and down to Old Harry Rocks before lunch at the Pig On the Beach.
The South West Coastal Path has spectacular views over the sea. At 630 miles don’t feel you have to complete the whole route. The link has many shorter routes for a quick stroll.
The Wessex Ridgeway. A walk along the chalk hills making up the spine of Dorset.
The Dorset Jubilee Trail Off the beaten track through local villages.
The north Dorset Trailway. Made up of sections of the old Dorset railway it is largely flat and with hard surfaces, makes for easy bike riding too.
